Twenty Five Years of Four Corners on Unemployment in Wollongong

Posted: September 6, 2010 in Uncategorized

Below are links to two of three episodes of the ABC’s Four Corners Program I have briefly appeared in. They include some coverage of the unemployment situation in my home town of Wollongong. No Power, No Passion was screened in 1984, The Callous Country in 1991, and The New Wave in 2009. While the episodes have a tendency to emphasise the disempowerment and hopelessness of unemployed people, they remain interesting explorations of the continuing impact of unemployment. For what I consider a more balanced consideration of the situation of the unemployed in Wollongong please listen to the radio interviews above (Australian Unemployment Union Forum, 4ZZZ radio interview – Jobless Organising and Social Power, Radio interview – We Are the Crisis of Capital and/or read Working for the Class: The Praxis of the Wollongong Out of Workers’ Union and/or The WOW factor: Wollongong’s unemployed and the dispossession of class and history.
